Ex-military personnel in the prison service

Are you a former UK prison officer/governor (an ex-employee of HMPPS/NOMS, SPS, NIPS, G4S, Serco or Sodexo)?

If so, we would love to hear from you!

We are academic researchers at the Universities of Birmingham and Liverpool, conducting a research project about the experience of ex-military personnel within the prison service.

We are running two surveys, for current and former prison staff.

The survey for former prison staff is accessed here. This survey – which is completely anonymous – is open to all former prison staff. We would like to hear from you whether or not you have served in the military and whether or not you have worked in prison alongside ex-military personnel.

The survey asks about your career in the prison system, any military service, and the role of ex-military personnel in UK prisons. (The survey is at its most user-friendly on a PC, laptop or tablet, although it also functions on a smartphone.)

The survey for current prison staff has been launched to serving prison staff in six  specific prison establishments. We respectfully ask current prison staff not to complete the former staff survey at this time.

If you would like the survey of current staff to be undertaken at your establishment, or if you’re interested in speaking to us about this project, or about your own experiences, we’d love to hear from you. Please click here to enter your details, or email us via d.moran@bham.ac.uk
